About
Marion Carriau
She founded the Mirage association in 2016, and her first solo piece, Je suis tous les dieux, premiered in 2018. Chêne Centenaire, a duet co-written and co-performed by Magda Kachouche, premiered in its indoor version in December 2021. In November 2021, she reworked Je suis tous les dieux into a version for young audiences at the Théâtre Berthelot in Montreuil, in partnership with Dansedense.
In 2022, together with Magda Kachouche, she created an outdoor version of Chêne Centenaire as well as Paysan.ne.s., a participatory piece which they envisage as the third branch of Chêne Centenaire.
In 2023, she taught Je Suis Tous Les Dieux to a group of children with whom she created Des Forets Des Lunes.
In 2024, she created a trio, L’Amiral Sénès, a piece in which she explores our relationship with historical heroes.
In 2025, she created Le Cabaret des Vignerons and the sound installation Les Légendaires.
In 2026, she created two pieces: La Boucle des secrets, a choreographed escape game aimed at young audiences, and DITTO to the sand, a trio for her two children and herself in which she explores her relationship with motherhood as a choreographer. That same year, in collaboration with LaMaisondanse CDCN in Uzès and with the support of 10 associations, schools and health centres in the Gard region, she created CanopER, a large woven canvas measuring 60m².
Association Mirage
Mirage, founded in August 2016 and based in the Centre-Val de Loire region, promotes the work of choreographer Marion Carriau. She views choreographic creation as a space that opens up to fiction, encouraging the reinvention of the body. The interweaving of dance with vocal practice and the visual arts lies at the heart of her artistic approach. She creates adaptable works designed to engage in dialogue with the environment in which they are set.
Through her work, Marion Carriau seeks to champion the intertwining of connections and our attachment to the world, to ecosystems and to species. This is why each of her creations re-examines the myths that shape our relationship with the world. Myth is an imaginary construct that expresses, through the senses and symbolism, the fundamental values of a community seeking cohesion. As Claude Lévi-Strauss explains, a myth always relates to events that took place before the creation of the world. But the intrinsic value attributed to myth stems from the fact that these events, though supposed to have occurred at a specific point in time, also form a permanent structure. This structure relates simultaneously to the past, the present and the future, and embeds the body within a complex network of meanings, at the heart of the choreographer’s creative process.
Marion Carriau is an artist-in-residence at La Maison CDCN d’Uzes from January 2023 to June 2026.
The Mirage association is funded by the DRAC Centre-Val de Loire and the Centre-Val de Loire region.
