‘Indian theatre and dance are the realm where it is still possible to see the physical embodiment of words such as god, goddess and divine; the realm where a glance can suddenly become an image of the sun; the realm where the actor or dancer can be at once the archer and the bow being drawn, the arrow in flight and the wounded doe.’

Marion Carriau invites us into a phantasmagorical world where words, gestures and music intertwine. Through her metamorphoses and narratives, she brings to life magical characters and sacred figures.

Je Suis Tous Les Dieux is a choreographed tale conceived as a bridge between contemporary writing and traditional Indian dance.

“Furthermore, following the example of Marc Pessin, who invites us to discover various objects from his ‘Pessinoise’ civilisation, I adopt the role of the researcher. I set out to question, observe, analyse and test certain elements of the Bharata Natyam vocabulary with care and meticulousness, proceeding from the premise that I am discovering a civilisation made up of objects, rituals, bodies and movements that are as yet unknown. By appropriating certain elements of Indian dance on the one hand, and exploring my relationship with the sacred on the other, I aim to create a fictional civilisation, from which I will present certain objects, rituals, bodies and movements that are as yet little known. Everything here serves as a pretext for questioning ritual, the construction of liturgy, and the sacralisation of space and the body, by defining alternative modes of representation for a vocabulary we believe we recognise.”
